Let’s start at the very beginning...
At the very beginning, there is no soil. No life, no worms. Just ants and brown, hard dirt. It is so hard that I can’t even get my hori hori knife into the soil 6 inches. Trying to do a soil sample has been interesting. I am already feeling a bit discouraged as I look at all the other flower farmers’ soil and I see what I am starting with. Can I even grow anything in this dirt? I see bare patches of ground everywhere and dry grass. It does not have the feeling of life, to be honest.
But that’s the beauty of regenerative agriculture. It takes time. It takes energy, and patience, and hard work. And it won’t happen overnight or maybe even not for a season or two. But I believe it can be made into something beautiful. I have no idea how much work this will be and if I can even grow anything, but I am sure going to try! Time to break ground and see what happens!
