First Plantings…
The ground has warmed, the soil is crazy different and I can plant things into it with ease! I am absolutely shocked at the transformation. I did my broadfork in the planting rows and it just slid in, no work at all. I pulled up a little of the dirt and there are a ton of worms. Where did they all come from? Seriously. I didn’t see a single worm, not one, in all the work I did last fall and winter and now, in each shovel-full of dirt, its squirming with life. Can cover crop, leaf mulch and compost make that much difference in just one season?? I guess so!!! I am so happy!! I can’t wait to see what will happen in the subsequent years.
Now I get to start planting all the seedlings I have babied in my propagation room and green house. I would not say I have a green thumb, but I do love plants and am so excited to see what comes of it! Also, getting ready to do my first compost tea mix - we finally got the brewer working the right way - that’s been an adventure. The compost tea mix will have molasses to raise the Brix numbers- more on that later, kelp powder, fish fertilizer,
